CASE STUDY:
Colony Mansions
Refurbishment & Renovation
Refurbishment of an Edwardian Mansion block in Earls Court. This five storey building featuring brick façade and stone bay windows originally comprised of 13 flats.
Location: Earls Court Road, London
Client: Tuba Resources
Completed: May 2021

Syntec Projects was engaged to convert Colony Mansions into 19 one- and two-bedroom flats. Works also comprised the construction of a small pitched roof to accommodate a new staircase to the top floor and an extension of the lift from the third to the fifth floor. For the lift and staircase, we installed steels to create a new roof. The apartments were finished with rustic oak flooring and the bathrooms with walk-in showers and oversized polished tiles.
As two of the apartments were still occupied during the works, we had to treat the mansion block as someone’s home, and not a building site. This meant that the main entrance was always kept clear, deliveries were accepted through the basement, and we maintained the highest level of cleanliness to minimise the disruption on the residents.

Unique challenges:
As with most older buildings, as work began we encountered some challenges along the way. The soil pipe drainage system was leaking and so had to be completely replaced, and we ran new hot water pipes throughout the building. Our client’s representative was on site so we were able to work with him and react to changes requested very swiftly, delivering the project on time.
